Bill Gerberding, longest-serving president of University of Washington, dies at age 85
William P. Gerberding, the 27th president of the University of Washington, died Saturday at the age of 85.
The longest serving president of the UW, Gerberding headed the university from 1979 to 1995. He is credited with increasing national awareness of the university, developing private partnerships to significantly increase financial support, and for navigating it through potentially devastating budget crises.
