COVID has hit disabled people especially hard

At the Institute for Career Development (ICD), which helps New York City residents with disabilities access employment, 75% or more of our participants in full-time employment lost their jobs or saw a reduction in hours due to the pandemic. In an economic downturn, “individuals with disabilities are usually the first laid off and the last to be rehired,”  says Susanne Bruyère , director of the Yang-Tan Institute on Employment and Disability at Cornell University.
