The Illinois Senate found itself under new leadership in January following the surprise announcement last fall that former President John Cullerton would retire. Democrats in the Senate, who hold a wide 40-19 advantage over Republicans, elected Sen. Don Harmon, D-Oak Park, as the new president. Sen. Bill Brady, R-Bloomington, remains the Republican leader.
