North Side Ald. Smith, Cappleman - both backed by Rahm - headed for runoffs
As Mayor Rahm Emanuel was headed to a runoff after Tuesday's city election, two North Side incumbent aldermen backed by a pro-Emanuel Super PAC also found themselves facing the unwanted prospect of heading back to the campaign trail.
Ald. Michele Smith (43rd), whose ward includes Lincoln Park, and James Cappleman (46th), whose ward includes Uptown and Lake View, were falling short of the 50 percent margin they needed to avoid runoffs, according to early election results.
