Solvay buys polymers business from Chevron Philips

Brussels-based chemicals maker Solvay SAannounced an agreement Thursday, Sept. 4, to buy the Ryton polyphenylene sulphide business, known as Ryton PPS, from Woodlands Texas-based petrochemicals company Chevron Philips Chemical Co.for $220 million. Ryton PPS, which supplies high-performance polymers to the automotive and electronics sectors, employs 200 people and had 2013 net sales of around Euro200 million ($260.3 million), with Europe accounting for nearly half of the total.
