State Bar asks court for OK to collect dues

With the Legislature deadlocked on the State Bar's proper role, the legal organization turned to the California Supreme Court on Thursday, for the first time in nearly two decades, for authority to stay afloat by collecting dues from the state's 243,000 lawyers.
