U. of C. Medical Center prepares for strike; Hospital diverting ambulances to other locations for emergency, trauma patients
The University of Chicago Medical Center is asking ambulances to take all emergency and trauma patients elsewhere, as it prepares for a second nurses strike next week.
That means that some of the South Side's most seriously injured patients -- including victims of gunshots, stabbings and car accidents -- will be taken to other hospitals. Patients who arrive at the University of Chicago's emergency department on foot or by car still will be treated there.
