Harris uses a value investment philosophy in selecting equity and equity-like securities of US and non-US issuers. The firm's investment philosophy spans across large, mid and small cap companies. In addition, Harris may hedge a client’s exposure to direct or indirect foreign currencies. In constructing portfolios for their clients, the firm seeks out companies that they believe are trading in the market at significant discounts to their underlying value. Harris believes purchasing businesses at a discount to intrinsic value minimizes risk while providing substantial profit potential. The firm uses a bottom-up approach focused on individual companies, rather than focusing on specific economic factors or industries. Harris generates their research ideas from a variety of internal and external sources. The firm’s research process seeks to identify companies selling at a discount to its estimate of intrinsic value.

ValueAct Capital was initially formed in June 2000 to manage the capital of its three founders, along with the capital of a limited number of outside investors, in an investment strategy that combines intensive due diligence, a concentrated number of investments, and active, constructive involvement in the value creation at those investments. Today, with offices in San Francisco and Boston, ValueAct Capital manages more than $8.0 billion on behalf of some of the world's most respected institutional and individual investors. ValueAct Capital concentrates on acquiring significant ownership stakes in a limited number of companies that it believes are fundamentally undervalued. The investment team seeks to identify companies that are out of favor, or may be undergoing significant transition. Such companies may be temporarily mispriced for a variety of reasons, including perceived unfavorable industry conditions, poor business performance, changes in management or ownership, reorganizations, or other external factors. These conditions can often result in fundamentally "good" businesses that are available at depressed valuations. The goal in each investment is to work productively with management and/or the company's board to implement a strategy or strategies that maximize returns for all shareholders. ValueAct Capital is typically one of the largest independent shareholders at each of its core company investments and works in a constructive manner with management and/or the company's board to successfully implement strategies that generate superior returns on invested capital. The seven investment partners have extensive experience working effectively with portfolio companies as long-term large shareholders, and oftentimes as members of the companies' boards. At any given time, the portfolio consists of ten to eighteen core company investments, as well as a small "farm team" of additional investments in development.

CommonWealth REIT is a real estate investment trust, or REIT, which primarily owns office and industrial buildings located throughout the United States. The majority of our properties are office buildings located in suburban areas and central business districts, or CBDs, of major metropolitan markets. CWH was founded in 1986 and went public on the New York Stock Exchange as a REIT that owned healthcare related properties. In the 1990’s we transformed into an office REIT by selling healthcare assets and buying office buildings. During this time, we also formed four subsidiary REITs: Hospitality Properties Trust (HPT), a REIT that owns hotels and travel centers; Senior Housing Properties Trust (SNH), a REIT that primarily owns healthcare properties; Government Properties Income Trust (GOV), a REIT that primarily owns and leases office buildings that are majority leased to government tenants and Select Income REIT (SIR), a REIT that is focused on owning and investing in net leased, single tenant properties. HPT, SNH, GOV and SIR became separate public companies in 1995, 1999, 2009 and 2012 respectively. In July 2010, we changed our name to CommonWealth REIT from HRPT Properties Trust in order to avoid any lingering confusion that the company may be a healthcare focused REIT. We have been investment grade rated since 1994 and we are included in a number of financial indices, including the Russell 1000®, the MSCI US REIT Index, S&P REIT Composite Index and the FTSE EPRA/NAREIT United States Index
