SAM uses a value-oriented, long-term, bottom-up stock selection process. Their research team appraises businesses by studying financial statements, regulatory information, trade publications, and other industry and corporate data, and by talking with corporate management, competitors, and suppliers. They use two methods for their appraisal: (1) they seek to assess the company’s liquidation value based on the current economic worth of corporate assets and liabilities; and (2) they seek to determine the company’s ongoing value based on its ability to generate free cash flow after required capital expenditures and working capital needs. In selecting investments they look for companies with strong business and good people.

ECM seeks to achieve investment returns superior to broad equity market indices in both up and down markets. They uses a fundamental, bottom-up, research-driven approach to find undervalued companies that will experience long-term secular change. The firm offers one strategy, the Eagle Equity portfolio, which they have managed since its inception. The Eagle Equity strategy invests in US traded public equities. From time to time, investments may include companies trading in the form of ADRs of non-US corporations that fit their investment criteria. Each Eagle Equity portfolio typically holds 25 to 35 positions. ECM generally limits portfolio holdings to 10 percent portfolio weights at market value and they primarily invest in the securities of larger capitalization companies. From time to time, they may also consider lower-cap companies.

Neuberger Berman BD offers clients investment solutions across asset classes, styles, capitalizations and geographies in both public and private markets, as well as multi-asset class solutions that bring them all together. For equity investments, the firm tends to focus on stocks with solid balance sheets, relatively low price-to-earnings ratios, low price-to-cash flow ratios, strong cash flows, above-average yields, sustainable earnings growth, reasonable valuation multiples relative to growth prospects, sound franchise values and significant insider ownership. They use both top-down and bottom-up analysis to select investments. In addition, Neuberger Berman uses options and futures and occasionally invests in ADRs and private equity opportunities.
