Company Description

With 41 years of service, Southwest Airlines Co. (Southwest), a low-fare major domestic airline, continues to differentiate itself from other low-fare carriers, offering a reliable product with exemplary Customer Service. Southwest was incorporated in Texas and commenced Customer Service on June 18, 1971 with three Boeing 737 aircraft serving three Texas cities - Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. Today, Southwest is the nation's largest carrier in terms of originating domestic passengers boarded serving 78 destinations in 39 states and the District of Columbia. On May 2, 2011, Southwest completed the acquisition of AirTran Holdings, Inc., and now operates AirTran Airways as a wholly owned subsidiary. Southwest has among the lowest cost structures in the domestic airline industry, consistently offers the lowest and simplest fares, and has one of the best overall Customer Service records. LUV is our stock exchange symbol, selected to represent our home at Dallas Love Field, as well as the theme of our Employee and Customer relationships. Southwest is one of the most honored airlines in the world known for its commitment to the triple bottom line of Performance, People, and Planet. Berkshire Hathaway employs the value investing principles of Benjamin Graham. Their investment approach focuses on buying shares of companies as a long-term investment. The firm seeks to invest in businesses that are easy to understand and have high ROE, exceptional management teams and limited debt. Rather than a diversified stock portfolio, Berkshire Hathaway invests in a small number of trusted investments that are overweighed in order to leverage the expected returns. The firm owns stock in a diverse group of over 50 public and private companies in wide range of industries including, but not limited to, manufacturing, retail, energy and finance. Investments are typically financed using the float from Berkshire Hathaway, Inc.'s insurance operations. Harris uses a value investment philosophy in selecting equity and equity-like securities of U.S. and non-U.S. issuers. The firm's investment philosophy spans across large, mid and small cap companies. In addition, Harris may hedge a client's exposure to direct or indirect foreign currencies. In constructing portfolios for their clients, the firm seeks out companies that they believe are trading in the market at significant discounts to their underlying value. Harris believes purchasing businesses at a discount to intrinsic value minimizes risk while providing substantial profit potential. The firm uses a bottom-up approach focused on individual companies, rather than focusing on specific economic factors or industries. Harris generates their research ideas from a variety of internal and external sources. The firm's research process seeks to identify companies selling at a discount to its estimate of intrinsic value.
