University of Alaska is a land-grant university that offers higher educational courses in a range of sectors. Nearly 33,000 students are enrolled at three campuses and their branches. These campuses are: University of Alaska Fairbanks, the first university; University of Alaska Anchorage, the largest university; and University of Alaska Southeast, its third component, located in the capital city of Juneau. Its academic departments include the geology department, the atmospheric sciences department, and the wildlife biology department. University of Alaska was founded in 1917 and is based in Fairbanks, Alaska.
