Biography

On November 7, 2006, Casey Cagle made history by becoming the first Republican ever elected to the state’s second highest office. To those who do not know him, winning the campaign for Lt. Governor might have seemed to defy odds. But to his family, friends and colleagues in the state Senate, this choice was logical for such a proven leader and devoted public servant.

Born in Hall County; a seventh generation resident – Casey Cagle was raised by a single mom. Times were sometimes lean growing up without a father, but Casey was always blessed with the love of a mother and learned early on the values of faith and hard work and a love for God, values which sustain him to this day. A standout football player, he graduated from Johnson High School and attended Gainesville College and Georgia Southern University.

After an injury ended his dreams of playing college football, Cagle entered the business world, starting his first venture, a small tuxedo shop in Gainesville, when he was just 20 years old. He soon demonstrated that he had a keen business sense, and his store quickly grew. His hard work and determination would lead him into bigger and better opportunities, and he is now considered a leader in the banking and real estate industries of northeast Georgia.

During this time he was quietly earning a reputation as a community leader and someone who could always be trusted to do the right thing. Seeing in him the hopes of a bright future for Georgia, the citizens of northeast Georgia chose Cagle to represent them in the state Senate in 1994 when he was only 28 years old, and he has been a loyal and distinguished public servant ever since.

As a state Senator, Casey established himself as an astute lawmaker and a critical asset to the General Assembly. His business acumen propelled him to prominent roles under the Gold Dome, including chairman of the Finance Committee, and his friendly demeanor and willingness to embrace bipartisan efforts to come up with the best solutions for Georgia established him as one of the most effective and popular lawmakers in the Senate. Respected by Democrats and Republicans alike, Cagle spent 12 years as a staunch supporter of lowering taxes and protecting private property rights, as well as a passionate advocate for protecting Georgia’s families.

As Georgia's 11th Lieutenant Governor, Casey Cagle is working to make Georgia a state where every single citizen, regardless of their current circumstances, can achieve the American dream. He is committed to creating an environment in which Georgia's citizens and businesses can prosper. Likewise, Casey is tirelessly working to create a pro-jobs culture throughout state government and an education system which focuses on the needs of the individual child. Casey will unite the Senate around the common goal of realizing that vision and making life better for all Georgians.

In recognition of his achievements and his commitment to Georgia, Georgia Trend Magazine listed Casey as one of the 100 most influential Georgians of 2006. James Magazine also named him one of its People of the Year for 2007. He serves as Vice Chair of the One Georgia Authority, Vice Chair of the Georgia State Finance and Investment Commission, and on the Executive Committee of the Republican Lt. Governor’s Association.

Despite these accolades, however, Casey counts his family as his single greatest accomplishment – and most important priority – in life. He is married to his high school sweetheart Nita, and they are the proud parents of three sons, Jared, Grant, and Carter. The Cagles currently live in Chestnut Mountain, where they are active members of Blackshear Place Baptist Church.
