Biography

Chris helps U.S. and international clients manage risk and solve their most challenging litigation issues. He advises and defends automotive, retail, consumer product and healthcare industry clients in high-exposure cases alleging product defects and recalls, consumer fraud and misrepresentation, and other mass torts and class actions. With more than 15 years of experience, Chris works with clients to understand their business and legal objectives and defend their interests in federal and state courts nationwide.

Chris defends companies in mass tort and class action claims and associated regulatory investigations by state and federal agencies. He also represents corporate clients in prosecuting and defending commercial claims. He has served as national coordinating counsel for product manufacturers, defending pattern litigation and helping clients implement processes and protocols to reduce litigation risk. Chris has extensive experience in cases involving chemical and environmental exposures, electrical and mechanical products, fires and explosions, wrongful death and catastrophic injuries, and high-exposure property damage. He also counsels on workers’ compensation law and alcoholic beverage regulatory control.

Chris is an advocate for pro bono services, primarily representing victims of domestic violence who seek protective orders against their abusers. He co-chairs McGuireWoods’ Richmond office Pro Bono Committee, and leads the protective order program for the Triage Project, a partnership among the Central Virginia Legal Aid Society (CVLAS), McGuireWoods and others. Chris sits on the board of directors of CVLAS and the Legal Aid Justice Center, and he is a former chair of the Richmond Bar Association’s Pro Bono Committee.

Chris earned his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he received the Robert K. Bellamy Scholarship and served on the board of the William Minor Lile Moot Court Competition.

Founded by Thomas Jefferson in 1819, the University of Virginia School of Law is a world-renowned training ground for distinguished lawyers and public servants. Consistently ranked among the top law schools in the nation, Virginia has educated generations of lawyers, instilling in them a commitment to leadership, integrity and community service. Virginia is justly famous for its collegial environment that bonds students and faculty, and student satisfaction is consistently cited as among the highest in American law schools. At Virginia, law students share their experiences in a cooperative spirit, both in and out of the classroom, and build a network that lasts well beyond their three years here. With more than 20,000 students and a faculty of more than 2,100, the University of Virginia has been ranked first or second among the nation's public universities since 1984. The University's diverse intellectual life is open to law students: Up to 12 credits from other departments may be counted toward the J.D. degree.
