UCLA's primary purpose as a public research university is the creation, dissemination, preservation and application of knowledge for the betterment of our global society. To fulfill this mission, UCLA is committed to academic freedom in its fullest terms: We value open access to information, free and lively debate conducted with mutual respect for individuals, and freedom from intolerance. In all of our pursuits, we strive at once for excellence and diversity, recognizing that openness and inclusion produce true quality. These values underlie our three institutional responsibilities. Learning and teaching at UCLA are guided by the belief that undergraduate, graduate and professional school students and their teachers belong to a community of scholars. This community is dedicated to providing students with a foundational understanding of a broad range of disciplines followed by the opportunity for in-depth study in a chosen discipline. All members of the community are engaged together in discovering and advancing knowledge and practice. Learning occurs not only in the classroom but also through engagement in campus life and in communities and organizations beyond the university.

Career History
Founder
1989 - Current

The Weil Co., dba Christopher Weil & Co., Inc., purchases securities with the idea of holding them in the client's account for a year or more. The firm typically employs this strategy when they believe the securities to be currently undervalued and/or they want exposure to a particular asset class over time, regardless of the current projection for this class. When making short purchases, The Weil & Co. generally does so with the goal of holding them for a year or less. They do this do this in an attempt to take advantage of conditions they believe will soon result in a price swing in the securities we purchase. The firm also purchases securities with the idea of selling them very quickly (typically within 30 days or less). In this strategy, The Weil & Co. seeks to take advantage of their predictions of brief price swing. The firm also uses margin transactions and option writing. In addition, they manage debt income portfolios that focus on corporate debt and no-load mutual funds aggregating such debt.

Christopher Weil & Co., Inc. attempts to measure the intrinsic value of a security by looking at economic and financial factors (including the overall economy, industry conditions, and the financial condition and management of the company itself) to determine if the company is underpriced (indicating it may be a good time to buy) or overpriced (indicating it may be time to sell). They purchase securities with the idea of holding them in the client's account for a year or longer. The UC San Diego Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation (Tax ID #95-2872494) which was established in 1972, in response to the University's recognition that private support is essential to maintaining and enhancing the margin of excellence at UC San Diego. The Foundation helps UC San Diego obtain private gifts (in support of research, teaching, and public service) and manages the gift assets. From the Foundation's inception in 1972, members of the Board of Trustees have formed a crucial link between UC San Diego and the community. The Trustees communicate about UC San Diego to the public, and in so doing, build interest in the campus and support for its programs. The excellence that UCSD has achieved has been assisted by the community, and the Trustees and volunteers who serve the UC San Diego Foundation continue to play a critical role in the growth and success of the campus. The Foundation accepts, administers, and invests private gifts in the form of cash and real or personal property and manages the funds either as endowments or as funds available for current expenditure. The Foundation’s net assets at June 30, 2012 were $586 million, of which the endowment comprised approximately $290 million.
