Elizabeth H. King, Ph.D.
President & CEO, Wichita State University Foundation

With more than 30 years of experience in higher education, Elizabeth has served as president & CEO of the Wichita State University Foundation since July 1, 2006. Prior to this appointment, Elizabeth held dual roles, serving both as WSU’s vice president for university advancement and the executive director of the WSU Foundation. She is the youngest vice president ever named at the university and only the second female vice president. Since her arrival, the WSU Foundation’s assets have grown from $53.8 million to more than $220 million. In 1999, Wichita State received the CASE National Award for Most Improved Fundraising Program.

In 2001, Elizabeth was selected by the Wichita Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals for its Outstanding Fundraising Executive Award and in 2003 she was named to the inaugural class of the Wichita Business Journal’s top 20 “Women in Business.” Elizabeth received the WSU Alumni Association Recognition Award in 2006 and was recognized as one of the “Business Leaders of the Year” for 2007 by the Wichita Business Journal. In 2009, she received national recognition as one of two recipients of the CASE Commonfund Institutionally Related Foundation Awards for executive leadership. Elizabeth was named as one of “50 Kansans You Should Know” in the Jan. 2012 issue of Ingram’s, Kansas City’s business magazine.

Active in her community, Elizabeth is the chair of the Salvation Army Advisory Board and is past-president of the Downtown Wichita Rotary Club. She also serves on the board of the Kansas Society for Children with Challenges. Elizabeth is a member of the Association of Governing Boards, the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education and the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She and her family are active members of Eastminster Presbyterian Church.

Elizabeth received her Bachelor of Arts from Wheaton College and her Master of Education and Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of North Texas.

She is married to Don and they have two sons, Lance and Brandon.

The Foundation was established on April 6, 1965, as the Wichita State University Endowment Association. The name changed to WSU Foundation in 2000. Leadership has played a critical role in the Foundation’s growth and success. Today they have more than 40 employees who are committed to making a difference by helping connect students and University needs with alumni who have a passion for giving back.
