Biography

FREDERICK SHACK, LMSW

Chief Executive Officer
Frederick Shack is Chief Executive Officer at Urban Pathways, a leading nonprofit serving homeless New Yorkers. He began his tenure at Urban Pathways as Executive Director in 2005, after serving 14 years as Senior Vice President of Client Services and Public Policy at HELP USA. Under Fred’s leadership, Urban Pathways has become one of the largest providers of supportive housing in the city, with more than 800 transitional, permanent, and low-income units in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens.

Fred is active in training the next generation of advocates for the homeless as a Lecturer at the Columbia University School of Social Work, teaching homeless policy and field supervision. He is the Vice-Chair of the Board of the Human Services Council of New York, Vice-Chair of the Board of the Supportive Housing Network of New York (SHNNY), former member of the Board of Homeless Services United, and a former member of the Board of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) New York Chapter. He currently serves as a member of the Mayor’s Non-Profit-Resiliency Committee and was formerly a member of the Mayor’s Supportive Housing Task Force.

Fred holds a BA in Psychology and an MSW degree from Rutgers University.
