Pepperdine University School of Law To learn the law is to understand for perhaps the first time one's place in a community and society whose freedoms and privileges are both defined and guaranteed by the law. Almost every area in daily American life is touched by the legal practice. Thus, the ability to control one's own interactions in those areas and the potential to help others in them are powerful skills. But almost everyone who holds a juris doctor agrees that the process of learning the law is one of the most challenging experiences in a lifetime. Not only must the language of the law be mastered new word by new word, but learning to think analytically almost inevitably requires an examination of many things that had once seemed immutable. Pepperdine University School of Law seeks to provide a few highly qualified students with the opportunity to pursue an academically challenging program in a unique and exciting environment. The student body possesses exceptional intelligence, as well as diversity, and rich and varied talents. Students will be surrounded by others who were also at the top of their undergraduate academic class, leaders in extracurricular activities, and active participants in their community. Alumni will leave prepared to enter positions as counselors, advocates, and judges; they will enter careers in business fields, as well as becoming writers and teachers of the law. We urge you to explore our Web site for a glimpse into this exciting place!

UCLA's primary purpose as a public research university is the creation, dissemination, preservation and application of knowledge for the betterment of our global society. To fulfill this mission, UCLA is committed to academic freedom in its fullest terms: We value open access to information, free and lively debate conducted with mutual respect for individuals, and freedom from intolerance. In all of our pursuits, we strive at once for excellence and diversity, recognizing that openness and inclusion produce true quality. These values underlie our three institutional responsibilities. Learning and teaching at UCLA are guided by the belief that undergraduate, graduate and professional school students and their teachers belong to a community of scholars. This community is dedicated to providing students with a foundational understanding of a broad range of disciplines followed by the opportunity for in-depth study in a chosen discipline. All members of the community are engaged together in discovering and advancing knowledge and practice. Learning occurs not only in the classroom but also through engagement in campus life and in communities and organizations beyond the university.

Best Lawyers is the oldest and most respected peer-review publication in the legal profession. A listing in Best Lawyers is widely regarded by both clients and legal professionals as a significant honor, conferred on a lawyer by his or her peers. For three decades, Best Lawyers® lists have earned the respect of the profession, the media, and the public as the most reliable, unbiased source of legal referrals anywhere. Our lists of outstanding attorneys are compiled by conducting exhaustive peer-review surveys in which tens of thousands of leading lawyers confidentially evaluate their professional peers. If the votes for an attorney are positive enough for inclusion in Best Lawyers, that attorney must maintain those votes in subsequent polls to remain on the list for each edition. Lawyers are not permitted to pay any fee to participate in or be included on our lists. Best Lawyers® peer-reviewed listings are now published in almost 70 countries around the world, and our presence has grown substantially in the international legal community. The twentieth edition of The Best Lawyers In America (2014) includes 48,949 attorneys in 135 practice areas, covering all 50 states and the District of Columbia, and inclusion in this year’s publication is based on more than 4.9 million detailed evaluations of lawyers by other lawyers.
