Biography

Jeesoo Nam is Visiting Assistant Professor of Tax Law at NYU. His research interests include tax law, criminal law, and philosophy of law. Within tax law, he is particularly interested in a desert-based approach to justice in tax policy and the moral and prudential reasons for following the tax law. Nam’s research in tax and criminal law is unified by the focus on the conditions under which one is responsible for the consequences of one’s actions, a fundamental issue within both distributive and retributive justice. He has also written about the demands of distributive justice with regard to biomedical technology. Nam teaches tax.

Nam received a JD from Yale Law School and a bachelor's with highest distinction, Phi Beta Kappa, from Duke University, where he majored in economics and philosophy. He received the Felix S. Cohen Prize in legal philosophy for his paper “Taxing Option Luck.” Prior to joining NYU, he worked as a tax associate in Los Angeles at Latham & Watkins, LLP.
