had
a
30+
year
career
with
the
company
he
co-founded
in
1981
and
that
firm
has
grown
to
be
one
of
the
largest
and
most
respected
architecture
firms
in
the
Metropolitan
area.
The
firm
has
been
repeatedly
honored
for
the
quality
of
their
design
work
and
their
leadership
in
sustainable
design.
In
1996,
Jim
was
elected
to
serve
on
the
Placer
County
Board
of
Supervisors
where
he
served
one
term
before
returning
to
the
private
sector.
He
currently
serves
as
an
elected
member
of
the
SPMUD
Board,
and
on
the
Executive
Board
for
Valley
Vision,
and
on
the
Leadership
Group
for
Next
Economy.
In
2004
he
was
selected
to
serve
as
Co-Chair
of
the
Sacramento
Region's
Partnership
for
Prosperity.
His
other
Civic
Leadership
includes
serving
as
an
Executive
Board
member
of
the
Urban
Land
Institute,
three
terms
on
the
Sacramento
Metropolitan
Chamber
of
Commerce
Board
of
Directors,
including
serving
as
Vice-Chair
for
Regional
Policy,
as
an
Executive
Board
member
of
SAC
TO,
as
well
as
President
of
the
Roseville
Chamber
of
Commerce
in
1993.
He
was
recognized
by
SACOG
as
Citizen
of
the
Year
in
2004
for
his
outreach
efforts
associated
with
the
Sacramento
Region's
Blueprint
Project,
and
was
selected
Business
Person
of
the
Year
in
2005
by
the
Roseville
Chamber
of
Commerce.
He
was
honored
by
the
Sacramento
Metro
Chamber
with
the
2007
Peter
McCuen
Award
for
Civic
Entrepreneurs,
and
is
a
past
winner
of
Placer
County's
Economic
Development
Award.

The Georgia Institute of Technology is a public research university in Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States. It is a part of the University System of Georgia and has satellite campuses in Savannah, Georgia; Metz, France; Athlone, Ireland; Shanghai, China; and Singapore. The educational institution was founded in 1885 as the Georgia School of Technology as part of Reconstruction plans to build an industrial economy in the post-Civil War Southern United States. Initially, it offered only a degree in mechanical engineering. By 1901, its curriculum had expanded to include electrical, civil, and chemical engineering. In 1948, the school changed its name to reflect its evolution from a trade school to a larger and more capable technical institute and research university. Today, Georgia Tech is organized into six colleges and contains about 31 departments/units, with emphasis on science and technology. It is well recognized for its degree programs in engineering, computing, business administration, the sciences, architecture, and liberal arts.
