Biography

Karen Loth

Karen Loth was appointed to Vice President for Development at Grand Valley State University in May 2012. Prior to her current position, she served as the Assistant Vice President for Development for 12 years. Since joining the university in 2000, Karen has led 12 campaigns, helping to raise more than $235 million dollars for Grand Valley in the past 15 years. Karen received her BA from Michigan State University in English and her MA from Western Michigan University in Educational Leadership. Before joining University Development at Grand Valley, she worked at Aquinas College. Karen is involved with the Economic Club of Grand Rapids, West Michigan 100 Strong and is an alumna of Leadership West Michigan.

Grand Valley State University (GVSU) offers the large number of academic programs and student life activities of a large university and the benefits of a smaller one. Located in Allendale, Michigan, Grand Valley State University has additional campus centers in Grand Rapids and other nearby cities. GVSU offers more than 200 programs of study, including more than 81 bachelor’s degrees. Undergraduate majors include: * Art * Biomedical Science * Chinese Studies * Classical Studies * Creative Writing * Criminal Justice * Engineering * Film * Nursing * Tourism Management Grand Valley State’s College life boasts more than 300 student clubs and organizations. While GVSU’s offerings are numerous, students still benefit from small classes and close contact with faculty. The undergraduate admissions department requires applicants to submit an online application, an application fee, transcripts and ACT or SAT scores. In addition to GPA and test scores, the admissions department also evaluates class ranking and classes taken. They also consider extracurricular activities. Grand Valley State University offers need-based federal financial aid awards like loans, grants and work-study. Grand Valley State also awards scholarships. Some examples of scholarships are performing arts scholarships, academic scholarships and scholarships for transfer students.
