Biography

Ken Willman is the Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary of Russell Investments, with responsibility for the global legal, compliance, internal audit, corporate governance, government and community relations and risk management functions. Willman is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee and the Russell Investments Global Council. He joined the firm in 2008 from Goldman Sachs, where he most recently served for over four years as General Counsel of Non-Japan Asia based in Hong Kong. During his 16 years with Goldman Sachs, Willman held a variety of positions including General Counsel of Goldman’s global Investment Banking Division. He was based in London for 12 years before moving to Hong Kong.

Russell Investments Implementation Services (RIIS) employs a multitude of models, data, and analytic systems in implementing an advisory strategy. Portfolio managers use this information to develop a recommended investment advisory strategy. RIIS employs a proprietary model in strategy development and implementation. In addition, the firm has access to the global institutional research organization and worldwide research investment professionals employed by their parent company, Frank Russell Co. RIIS uses a combination of long and short positions in synthetic instruments to equitize cash, rebalance portfolios, implement portable alpha strategies, provide currency overlays, manage cash flows and hedge liabilities.RIIS offers investment advice on a broad range of investments, including, but not limited to: exchange listed securities, securities traded over-the-counter and foreign issuers; warrants; corporate debt securities; commercial paper; certificates of deposit; municipal securities; mutual fund shares; US government securities; options contracts on securities; commodities; and futures contracts on intangible securities. From time-to-time, RIIS may recommend that managed account clients invest in affiliated funds, certain other pooled investment vehicles, other open- or closed-end mutual funds, separate account programs, individual securities or other assets. Other types of investments may include foreign currency (FX) instruments, including forwards, spots and SWAPs. The firm's Currency Management Group (CMG) acts as agent to manage foreign currency execution. In addition to its currency execution capability, the CMG offers a passive currency overlay service.^

RIM's client assets are primarily invested using a multi-style, multi-manager diversification approach. They offer investment advice regarding equities and fixed-income securities, as well as certain derivative instruments. They may also recommend that managed account clients invest in affiliated funds, certain other pooled investment vehicles, other open- or closed-end mutual funds, separate account programs, individual securities or other assets. RIM researches investment advisors for different asset classes and investment styles. They invest in pooled investment vehicles and/or manages funds to either fully or closely replicate indexes (some of which may be affiliated). In certain cases, they may create custom baskets of index and benchmark securities based on multiple risk factors specific to client portfolios utilizing automated model databases. RIM directly manages funds that are managed to money market guidelines and other fixed-income accounts. The portfolio manager focuses on diversification of risks including credit risk, interest rate risk and redemption risk. The firm's investment services involve managing third party managers who are responsible for discrete portions of the portfolios of RIM's clients.
