Maria Harper-Marinick, Ph.D., is the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost for the Maricopa Community College District in Arizona; a system comprised of 10 colleges and 2 skills centers that serve over 260,000 students annually. As the chief academic and student affairs officer for the Maricopa system, Dr. Harper-Marinick provides oversight for curriculum; academic research and assessment; student affairs; strategic planning and institutional effectiveness; university relations, transfer, and articulation; grants development and management; international education; faculty professional growth and development; high school to college pathways and outreach programs; workforce development; and small business development.

As Executive Vice Chancellor, Dr. Harper-Marinick also works closely with the Chancellor in three major areas: definition and implementation of the District's strategic plan and allocation of resources to achieve the plan; leading initiatives to enhance access and increase student success; and building the stature and recognition of the District and its colleges locally, nationally, and internationally.

Originally from the Dominican Republic, Dr. Harper-Marinick came to Arizona in 1982 as a LASPAU- Fulbright Scholar to attend Arizona State University. She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Technology and a Master's Degree in Instructional Media from Arizona State University, and a Licentiate in School Administration and Pedagogy from Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Urena in the Dominican Republic. In addition to her work at Maricopa since 1991, she has been a college instructor and guest lecturer at Arizona State University and Northern Arizona University.

Dr. Harper-Marinick is active at the local and national levels. She serves on national and local boards and advisory committees, including Arizona Minority Education Policy Analysis Center (AMEPAC), 2012-2014 Chair; National Community College Hispanic Council, President-Elect; Western Alliance of Community College Academic Leaders, Chair Elect; American College & University President's Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) Academic Committee; American Association for Community Colleges, Commission on Diversity, Inclusion and Equity; Arizona's Academic Program Articulation Steering Committee (APASC); Arizona Business and Education Coalition (ABEC); Arizona's Friends of Small Business Advisory Board; Arizona Higher Education Engagement and Communication Committee for implementation of PARCC assessments; Arizona Skill Standards Commission; Arizona Women in Higher Education, Executive Committee; Corporate Voices Community College Advisory Board; Distinguished National Advocate for the Center for Renewal and Wholeness in Higher Education; Lumina Foundation-funded Getting Ahead Arizona, Policy Review; Florence Crittenton of Arizona; Latino Advisory Committee for the Morrison Institute for Public Policy; Career and Technical Education Advisory Committee for the Morrison Institute for Public Policy; and National Association of Community College Teacher Education Programs.

Dr. Harper-Marinick has authored several book chapters, has published articles in professional journals, and has presented at many local, national, and international conferences. She has been the recipient of various awards throughout her tenure at Maricopa. She has been selected as Fellow for both the National Community College Hispanic Council (NCCHC) and the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU). She has received the Victoria Foundation's Alfredo de los Santos award for Service in Higher Education and the Employee Spotlight Award from Valle del Sol's Profiles of Success, and was selected as the Maricopa Community Colleges' District Office Woman of Distinction
