Biography

Mark Smith is responsible for leading the execution and delivery of American Red Cross recovery services nationwide. His duties include program development, implementation and evaluation for a current portfolio that exceeds $60 million in active programming. During his 14 years at the Red Cross, Smith has served in several positions including the regional director for Africa programs; senior director for field operations, hurricane recovery program; CEO for Mississippi; and executive director, preparedness health and safety. He has deployed to several major disasters, including 9/11, the 2004 tsunami, Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma and the Haiti earthquake.

Before joining the Red Cross 14 years ago, Smith worked for CARE and Africare. Smith earned his bachelor’s degree from Lincoln University and his executive MBA from the George Washington University.
