After completing its first building, its first building in 1855, Northwestern began classes that fall with two faculty members and 10 students. Northwestern has three campuses and a total of 12 Schools and Colleges (one of which is located in South Florida. True North Venture Partners focuses on investments in early-stage companies that have the potential to transform, expand and lead global industries. The firm invests in companies with disruptive innovations that can reshape socially significant industries such as energy, water, agriculture and waste. True North Venture Partners targets companies operating sectors that involve the delivery of social goods, that is, goods and services that confer benefits and/or impose costs beyond the consumer to a broader society and in which governments historically have been involved regulating market participants and in actually defining the markets themselves. The firm seeks to invest in companies operating in sectors that, over time, can serve large, mainstream markets and have solutions that can be brought to market within 3 to 5 years of their initial investment. While they prefer to be the first investor in a portfolio company, True North Venture Partners also considers later-stage investments in certain situations. Total investment per company generally ranges from $100,000 to $25 million. True North Venture Partners also has the capability to invest larger as appropriate.
