Founded in 1831, New York University is now one of the largest private universities in the United States. Of the more than 3,000 colleges and universities in America, New York University is one of only 60 member institutions of the distinguished Association of American Universities. From a student body of 158 during NYU's very first semester, enrollment has grown to more than 40,000 students attending 18 schools and colleges at five major centers in Manhattan and in sites in Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America. Today, students come from every state in the union and from 133 foreign countries. The faculty, which initially consisted of fourteen professors and lecturers (among them artist and inventor Samuel F. B. Morse), now totals over 3,100 full-time members whose research and teaching encompasses the humanities, the sciences, and the social sciences; the law; medicine; business; education; the fine arts, studio art, and the performing and cinematic arts; music; social work; public administration; the ancient world; and continuing and professional studies. With more than 2,500 courses offered, the University awards more than 25 different degrees. Although overall the University is large, the individuals schools and colleges are small- to moderate-sized units—each with its own traditions, programs, and faculty – and there are many communities to be found within the NYU community based on interests, activities, and shared experiences. The center of NYU is its Washington Square campus in the heart of Greenwich Village. One of the city's most creative and energetic communities, the Village is a historic neighborhood that has attracted generations of writers, musicians, artists, and intellectuals. NYU, in keeping with its founder’s vision, is “in and of the city”: the University – which has no walls and no gates – is deeply intertwined with New York City, drawing inspiration from its vitality. In addition to its Manhattan locations, the University is also formally affiliated the Polytechnic Institute of NYU in Brooklyn, the second oldest school of engineering and technology in the country, and has research facilities, notably the Nelson Institute of Environmental Medicine, in Sterling Forest, near Tuxedo, New York. And NYU has established itself as the first global network university, with a comprehensive liberal arts campus in Abu Dhabi – the first to be operated abroad by a major U.S. research university – and other sites for study and research in Accra, Ghana; Berlin, Germany; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Florence, Italy; London, England; Madrid, Spain; Paris, France; Prague, the Czech Republic; Shanghai, China; and Tel Aviv, Israel, among other locations.

The company was founded in 1954 by Julien J. Studley, and from its foundation represented only tenants. n 1963 the company began producing and publishing a survey of New York City's available office space, which took the place of the informal exchange of anecdotes that had hitherto served commercial real estate agents to understand the local market. Called The Studley Report, the monthly publication allowed, for the first time in New York, to understand the state of the market clearly, which allowed them to make better decisions about how much the commercial real estate they were seeking was actually worth. The company changed its name to Studley, Inc. in 2003.

The Real Estate Academic Initiative at Harvard University (REAI) is an interfaculty, interdisciplinary program focused on real estate research and education across the University. We are overseen by the Office of the Provost, and led by a Core Faculty Committee representing five Harvard schools: the Graduate School of Design, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Kennedy School of Government, the Harvard Law School, and the Harvard Business School. The central purpose of the REAI is to provide necessary funding for interdisciplinary and interfaculty research efforts to improve the study and practice of real estate and urban development both domestically and abroad. We cultivate research projects that engage Harvard faculty and students from a broad range of disciplines in conversations about the future of cities and those investing in them. The International Advisory Board of the REAI is a body comprised of both Harvard-affiliated and non-affiliated industry leaders who provide guidance and support for the various activities of the Initiative. The primary mission of the International Advisory Board is to provide guidance for the research agenda and to advise the core faculty on issues of concern in global real estate, providing a vital connection between the academic focus of the Initiative and current industry trends. The REAI has also supported the formation of an alumni association to take part in activities of the Initiative. This group focuses on community building among Harvard alumni, as well as student support activities such as networking, mentoring and career support. The REAI’s alumni activities are directed by the Alumni Advisory Board, a diverse group of Harvard graduates engaged in real estate and related disciplines. Because the REAI is committed to strict academic integrity, all recommendations of the Boards are advisory and are provided for the benefit of the core faculty and to serve the mission of the Initiative. Financial support for the research efforts and other activities of the Initiative is given with the understanding that the agenda of the Initiative must remain under the control of the faculty.

The history of Horace Mann School is one rich in tradition, scholarship and leadership. It is a history founded on the premise that learning is not to be measured by grades alone, but by the remarkable, compassionate and socially significant lives our students and alumni choose to lead while at Horace Mann School and beyond. That history is alive in all that we do at Horace Mann School, in the passion our students bring to their work in our labs, on our stages, in our art studios and recital halls, and on our athletic fields. That tradition becomes dynamic as it informs our School today, a School we proudly present to you through this website, and a School we invite you to interact with and get to know. Our School is a model of traditional educational excellence and sound values in a society in search of both. We are a community that cares deeply about its students within a structure of immense expectations. We not only pride ourselves on having a talented and imaginative faculty capable of producing citizens who think freely and respond to reason, we pride ourselves on attracting students who long to be pushed to the heights of their abilities, who want to mine their worth for all it's worth.
