Biography

Michael Forman is Co-Chair of the firm's Tax, Trusts & Estates Department. His practice encompasses complex business transactions and all phases of tax, estate and succession planning. He joined the firm in 1975 and became a partner in 1977.

Michael lectures regularly for certified public accounting, bar associations, investment advisors and insurance professionals on tax matters, including tax, estate and succession and corporate issues. He was an adjunct professor at the American College teaching business and estate tax planning. He has been certified as an Accredited Estate Planner by the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils

Michael is a member of the Tax Society of New York University and was appointed as a member of the Governor of New Jersey's Tax Advisory Council. He has been awarded an AV rating for his professionalism and the quality of his legal work from Martindale-Hubbell, the premier directory of legal professionals and was been selected “Trusts and Estates Lawyer of the Year in Hackensack” by The Best Lawyers in America for 2012.. Since 1997, he has also been selected by his peers for inclusion in the prestigious Best Lawyers in America in two areas - taxation and trusts and estates. Since 2005, he has been selected for inclusion in New Jersey Super Lawyers. Michaelwas named to Who's Who in American Law, and the Top 100 Attorneys Serving Affluent Clients list by Worth magazine in 2005 and 2006. He was also selected for inclusion in the New Jersey 2011 Five Star Wealth Managers list, publishedby New Jersey Monthly,in the areas of business planning, charitable giving and taxation and has been included in 201 Magazine's list of Top Lawyers in Bergen County.

He is a member of the Bergen County Bar Association (Taxation and Probate Committees), the Passaic County Bar Association (Taxation and Probate Committees), the New Jersey State Bar Association (Taxation and Probate Committees), and the American Bar Association (Taxation and Probate Committees). Michael is a Trustee of the Endowment Foundation of Montclair State University and has been appointed to the Governor of New Jersey's Tax Advisory Council. In addition, he is Chairman of Lawyer's Division of State of Israel Bonds, Metrowest and sits on the Board of Governors of the Daughters of Israel. He is past president of the Estate Planning Council of Bergen County and the Passaic County Bar Association and a former trustee of the Endowment Foundation of the North Jersey and Greater Clifton-Passaic Federations.

Michael earned his B.A. from Rutgers University, his J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law-Newark where he was editor of Rutgers Law Review and his LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law.

Newhouse Center for Law and Justice, at 123 Washington Street, in downtown Newark. Founded in 1908 as the New Jersey Law School, it merged with the University of Newark in 1936, which itself merged with Rutgers University, one of the most recognized public universities in the world, and the eighth oldest college in the country. The Law School celebrated its centennial on September 9, 2008. The school is accredited by the American Bar Association, a member of the Association of American Law Schools, and registered with the Board of Regents of the State of New York. It submits annual ABA-required disclosures. According to its 2013 disclosure, 82.2% of the Class of 2013 had long-term employment nine months after graduation; 55.9% of that class were employed in full-time, long-term, J.D.-required positions at that time. The New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA) is a voluntary bar association for the state of New Jersey. In June 1899, 74 attorneys launched NJSBA in Atlantic City; annual dues were $5.00.[2] Within the next decade, the Canon of Ethics was adopted by the NJSBA and the Committee on Law Reform, aimed at improving the practice of law and administration of justice in NJ, was formed. Over the years, NJSBA supported the establishment of a Judicial Council to study the problem of an increase in court cases, the replacement of the New Jersey Court of Errors and Appeals with a Supreme Court, and the repeal of Prohibition. In 1945, NJSBA developed refresher courses for attorneys returning from service in World War II, the forerunner of today's practice of Continuing Legal Education. In the 1980s, paralegals, law office administrators and other non-lawyers were welcomed into NJSBA as associate members. NJSBA supports 37 practice-oriented sections to support a diverse spectrum of law practice. NJSBA is the publisher of New Jersey Lawyer Magazine. It shares New Jersey Law Center with the New Jersey State Bar Foundation, the Institute for Continuing Legal Education, the IOLTA Fund of the Bar of New Jersey, the New Jersey Lawyers Assistance Program and the New Jersey Commission on Professionalism.

The Montclair State University Foundation, Inc. was created in 1960 by alumni and friends to provide financially for the educational needs of Montclair State. The Foundation is a separate not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) corporation established under the laws of the State of New Jersey. It has been designated by the Board of Trustees of Montclair State University to solicit, receive, hold and manage funds and property on behalf of the University. Since its inception, Montclair State University Foundation has received contributions from alumni, businesses, corporations, private foundations, and other friends engaged in educational philanthropy. The Foundation endowment is valued in excess of $50 million. The Foundation ensures professional management and stewardship of contributions to support specific programs and projects at Montclair State University and maintains strict adherence to the donor's philanthropic intentions. The Foundation provides support for University fundraising and capital campaigns, sponsors more than 350 annual scholarships and underwrites a variety of programs to reward excellent teaching and scholarship. The Foundation's annual grants fund start-up costs of worthy programs in both the academic area and student life, improve facilities, and cover costs of special, unanticipated opportunities that would otherwise go unrealized.
