Biography

Neil Gluck is a partner in the Los Angeles office whose practice concentrates on the legal aspects of real estate acquisition, leasing, sales and development. Neil's clients include investment and development companies, institutional lenders such as life insurance companies, pension funds, banks and REITs, and corporate and facilities users. Expert on a broad range of leasing issues, he represents both landlords and tenants in office, retail, industrial, medical, shopping center and mixed-use projects throughout California and various other states. Neil's clients rely on him to negotiate various agreements associated with lease transactions and management of properties, including broker listing and registration agreements, tenant improvement contracts, build-to-suit leases, straight leases, renewals, sublease and assignment transactions, lease takeovers, ground leases, property management agreements and parking agreements. He is also skilled in solving lease disputes and developing workout strategies. Neil has been involved in more than 30 million square feet of lease transactions in the last 10 years, including headquarters and corporate facilities transactions involving Carnation/Nestle, Wellpoint, TCW, Disney, TRW, Timberland and Wells Fargo Bank Inktomi and other various ".com" companies. With respect to acquisition, development and sales transactions, Neil has extensive experience negotiating various sales and acquisition agreements, CC&Rs, development and other related agreements.

Much in demand as a lecturer on real estate issues, he has spoken before real estate owners, developers, tenants, brokers and property managers on such topics as Allocations of Free Rent for Tax Purposes; The New Age of Lease Negotiations, Documentation, Policies and Procedures; Leases and Property Damage, Brokerage Agreements; and Mechanic's Liens. Neil has been a featured speaker at the Vision 2000 conferences and the BOMA Summit, and was a consultant to CEB's Lease Action Guidelines, and has written several articles for real estate publications.

Stanford began offering a curriculum in legal studies in 1893, when the university engaged its first two law professors. One was Benjamin Harrison, former President of the United States, who delivered a landmark series of lectures on the Constitution. The other was Nathan Abbott, who served as head of the nascent law program. Abbott assembled a small faculty to which he imparted a standard of rigor and excellence that endures to this day.In an effort to acknowledge the emerging professional nature of the department, Stanford's Board of Trustees passed a resolution in 1908 to substitute the term 'law school' for 'law department,' though technically the law program remained a department within the university.The law school was at the forefront of efforts to institute the California Bar exam, which was added to the requirements to practice law in California in 1919. The law school was accredited by the American Bar Association in 1923, the year the ABA began certifying law schools.
