Carlson Capital employs multiple strategies including equity relative value, equity long/short, event-driven, fixed income and macro. The firm may also engage in trading strategies including establishing portfolio overlay hedges and opportunistic, short-term trading in securities they believe are underpriced or overpriced, either relative to their peers or on an absolute basis. Their investment strategies are driven by fundamental proprietary research, traditional security analysis, quantitative analysis, broker and research provider research and analyses, as well as the industry knowledge and expertise of their portfolio management teams. Carlson Capital's strategies typically attempt to reduce risk by hedging long positions with short positions and/or derivatives. The firm does not attempt to maintain a market neutral portfolio for all their funds and at times they may cause a fund or a managed account to take directional positions that may be affected by the condition of the market.
