Samuel Owl

Chief Financial Officer at National Congress of American Indians

Biography

Sam Owl, Jr. is from North Carolina and a proud member
of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. He studied
accounting at the University of Tennessee and began his
career as an intern with his tribe in the finance department
while in college. Today, Sam is the new Director of Finance
for NCAI.
“I was attracted to NCAI because I believe in protecting
tribal sovereignty and building tribal nations,” he said. Sam
is very happy that he is able to be apart of NCAI history
with the new Embassy of Tribal Nations.
Sam hopes to help NCAI meet its goals for the future and
become a part of a community of Natives, something he has
missed since moving away from the reservation in 2002.
His greatest inspiration is his great-grandfather Samuel
Owl, who was a World War I veteran, an ambassador to his
tribe and a participant in Unto These Hills for over 20 years.
