Biography

Stephen R. Reiner '61

Stephen Reiner is an attorney and consultant. He is the director, treasurer and secretary of The Jerusalem Foundation, Inc. in the United States.

Additionally, Reiner is director of the UJA Federation of New York; the World Confederation of Jewish Community Centers; Maccabi USA/Sports for Israel; the Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services; and the Jewish Community Centers Association of North America. He is the chair emeritus of the Jewish Communal Network Commission as well as the chairman and director of Kings Bay YM/YWHA. Reiner is a past chair and member of the JCC Maccabi Games-Continental Governing Body.

Reiner is a recipient of the Brandeis Alumni Leadership Award in 1990, the Brandeis Alumni Association Service to Association Award in 1996 and the Friends of Brandeis Athletics Charlie Napoli Distinguished Achievement Award in 2006.

Reiner received his B.A. from Brandeis University and his LL.B. from New York University Law School. Reiner was admitted to NY State Bar in 1964.

Brandeis University is an American private research university with a liberal arts focus. It is located in Waltham, Massachusetts, 9 miles (14 km) west of Boston. Brandeis was founded in 1948 as a nonsectarian Jewish community-sponsored coeducational institution on the site of the former Middlesex University. The university is named for Louis Brandeis (1856–1941), the first Jewish Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.

THE GAMES ARE HELD IN ISRAEL, AS WELL AS OTHER INTERNATIONAL MACCABI GAMES IN LATIN AMERICA, AUSTRALIA, AND EUROPE. EACH TEAM IS COMPRISED OF JEWISH ATHLETES FROM THE USA WHO REPRESENT THEIR COUNTRY IN THE ATHLETIC COMPETITION AND LEARN ABOUT THE JEWISH CULTURE AND HERITAGE IN THE HOST COUNTRY WHERE THE GAMES TAKE PLACE. IT IS THE UNIQUE COMBINATION OF SPORTS AND HISTORY THAT ALLOWS MACCABI USA TO CHANGE THE LIVES OF ALL WHO PARTICIPATE IN THE GAMES. ATHLETES LEAVE THE COMPETITION WITH A FEELING OF ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR THEIR ATHLETIC ABILITY, GREAT NEW FRIENDS FROM AROUND THE WORLD, AND MOST IMPORTANT, A SENSE OF PRIDE FOR THEIR UNIQUE CULTURE AND HERITAGE. THEY FEEL A SPECIAL CONNECTION WITH THEIR FELLOW JEWS FROM AROUND THE WORLD AND A STRONG CONNECTION TO THE STATE OF ISRAEL.
