Biography

?Susan M. Marcella is a partner in the Los Angeles Office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP. She is a member of the firm’s Litigation Department and the firm’s Litigation, Class Actions, Law Firm Defense, Health Care, and Appellate and Constitutional Law Practice Groups. Ms. Marcella’s practice focuses on complex business and commercial litigation, with an emphasis on matters involving breach of contract, fraud, unlawful business practices, and multiple other business torts, including professional negligence. Ms. Marcella also has broad experience in real estate litigation, including substantial expertise in mortgage foreclosure remedies and related compliance matters. She recently served as legal counsel to the independent consultants in the residential mortgage foreclosure reviews conducted on the loan portfolios of two of the Nation’s largest servicers pursuant to the Consent Orders issued by the Office of the Comptroller of Currency and the Federal Reserve Board in April 2011. In addition, Ms. Marcella has extensive experience in health care-related litigation. She has represented major health care companies in a variety of complex litigation matters, including class action and representative proceedings, mass tort litigation, government investigations, and a variety of related civil and criminal matters. She also has represented her clients in both coordinated and consolidated civil proceedings, which has involved defending against hundreds of related claims.

Ms. Marcella practices in both state and federal courts at the trial and appellate levels. She is admitted to practice before the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit as well as all state and federal courts in California.

Ms. Marcella is a member of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher’s Diversity Committee, Los Angeles Division. In addition, she has served on the Firm’s Hiring Committee, including service for many years as Chair of the Firm’s Summer Subcommittee of the Hiring Committee. She also has served on the Board of Directors of the March of Dimes, the Greater Los Angeles Division.

Ms. Marcella joined the firm in 1989 after completing a judicial clerkship for the Honorable Edward Rafeedie, United States District Court for the Central District of California. She received her law degree from the University of Southern California in 1988, where she graduated Order of the Coif and was a member of the Southern California Law Review. Ms. Marcella did her undergraduate work at Columbia University.

Established in 1927, the Southern California Law Review is an independent and autonomous entity. Matters of policy, procedure and content are determined solely by the Editorial Board. All decisionmaking authority is delegated by the Dean of the law school to the Editor-in-Chief. The EIC, in turn, delegates various responsibilities to the Editorial Board and the Staff. Each year the Law Review publishes one volume, which is produced in six separate issues. Each issue normally contains several articles written by outside contributors and several notes written by Southern California Law Review staff members. The Law Review strives to publish articles on a wide range of topics and to serve all segments of the legal community. In addition, the Law Review frequently hosts a symposium in order to explore timely or controversial areas of law.
