Susan Rider-Porter

Susan was elected to the Lake Bluff Board of Education in 2011 and begins her second term in 2015. She and her husband Todd Porter moved to Lake Bluff from Chicago in Fall 2001, just as their eldest child was entering pre-K. Like many before them, the Rider-Porter family moved to our community due, in large part, to our outstanding schools. Having been raised in a small Nebraska town where the school (singular!) was the heart of the community, Susan treasures the strong sense of community she and Todd found here in Lake Bluff. As their eldest prepares to graduate from Lake Forest High School this year and their youngest at the middle school, Susan knows that the community’s emphasis on the schools has provided her family with an incredible start in life, and she is devoted to maintaining and enhancing the quality of our schools.

Susan earned her bachelor’s degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University and her law degree from Cornell University and is now a practicing attorney specializing in Labor and Employment law, as Vice President and Deputy General Counsel for Labor, Employment & Employee Benefits in Exelon Corporation’s Chicago headquarters. Throughout her 25 year legal career, first in law firms in Boston and Chicago and now at Exelon Corporation, Susan has worked closely with business leaders to solve everyday problems involving Labor and Employment law issues. In addition, she manages in-house and outside attorneys in representing the company in employment related lawsuits.

Susan ardently believes that the American public school system is fundamental to our democracy and is one of this nation's greatest assets. She welcomes the opportunity to continue contributing to the Lake Bluff Schools and helping them to continue to flourish.
