Biography

Dechert LLP Thomas A. Rayski advises clients on intellectual property matters in a variety of industries, including life sciences, information technology, and financial services. He works with clients to structure and negotiate complex domestic and foreign transactions involving intellectual property and technology assets, including strategic collaborations, acquisitions, licenses, research and development arrangements, joint ventures, financings, and manufacturing and distribution agreements. Mr. Rayski also advises clients on the protection, management, and enforcement of their patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets, including in establishing and improving policies respecting the identification and development of intellectual property assets. Mr. Rayski has advised clients in the life sciences industry in complex collaborations, development agreements, licenses, and distribution and supply arrangements involving pharmaceutical compounds and medical devices. Recently, he assisted a well-known drug company in the drafting and negotiation of a settlement agreement of patent infringement claims on a worldwide basis related to one of its significant products. He also recently represented a client in a multifaceted collaboration and licensing arrangement relating to the discovery and commercialization of pharmaceutical compounds in the cancer field. Mr. Rayski also has counseled established and start-up companies in the financial services and information technology industries with respect to a diverse range of matters, including software development and licensing, electronic agreements, service agreements, data privacy, and digital identification. He recently assisted a major financial institution in establishing a digital identity product offering, which involved the analysis of complicated legal issues relating to electronic contracting and enforcement and the drafting and negotiation of a series of interconnected agreements between service providers and customers. He also has recently counseled a start-up software technology company in commercializing its technology, both domestically and overseas, through a series of licensing and service agreements. Prior to beginning his legal career, Mr. Rayski worked as a systems engineer for Electronic Data Systems and was responsible for the development, implementation, and support of custom-developed computer systems for customers in the manufacturing industry. Rutgers School of Law–Newark is the oldest of the three law schools in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is located at the S.I. Newhouse Center for Law and Justice, at 123 Washington Street, in downtown Newark. Founded in 1908 as the New Jersey Law School, it merged with the University of Newark in 1936, which itself merged with Rutgers University, one of the most recognized public universities in the world, and the eighth oldest college in the country. The Law School celebrated its centennial on September 9, 2008. The school is accredited by the American Bar Association, a member of the Association of American Law Schools, and registered with the Board of Regents of the State of New York. It submits annual ABA-required disclosures. According to its 2013 disclosure, 82.2% of the Class of 2013 had long-term employment nine months after graduation; 55.9% of that class were employed in full-time, long-term, J.D.-required positions at that time. The law school's alumni include two currently sitting United States Senators.
