Advisory Council at New, Inc.

NEW INC, the first museum-led incubator, is a shared workspace and professional development program designed to support creative practitioners working in the areas of art, technology, and design. Conceived by the New Museum in 2013 and launched September 2014, the incubator is a not-for-profit platform that furthers the Museum’s ongoing commitment to new art and new ideas. NEW INC provides a collaborative space for a highly selective, interdisciplinary community of one hundred members to investigate new ideas and develop a sustainable practice. Creatives today are working in unique ways that are cross-disciplinary, collaborative, leveraging technology, and increasingly straddling the line between culture and commerce. Because they are exploring new modes of cultural production, the professional landscape in which they work is still undefined, and few resources and systems exist to support these enterprises, or to address the unique challenges they are encountering. NEW INC offers a lab-like environment and framework for the development of new ideas, practices, and models in the pursuit of innovation. Over the course of twelve months, members have access to full-time and part-time coworking desk space, shared resources, events, and professional development programming, as well as a robust network of mentors and advisors that includes members of the New Museum’s staff and affiliates. NEW INC members also benefit from developing their ideas under the umbrella of the Museum, working in close proximity to Museum artists-in-residence, programs, and affiliates like IDEAS CITY and Rhizome, as well as our anchor tenant, Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP) Studio-X.

PSCM is a concentrated, research-intensive, fundamental value investor in the public markets. Their funds' investment objectives are to preserve capital and to seek maximum, long-term capital appreciation commensurate with reasonable risk. The firm defines risk as the probability of a permanent loss of capital, rather than price volatility. In their value approach to investing, PSCM seeks to identify and invest in long and short investment opportunities they believe exhibit significant valuation discrepancies between current trading prices and intrinsic business (or net asset) value, often with a catalyst for value recognition. They focus on deeply undervalued or overvalued securities due to their belief that a well-priced purchase or short sale is often the most important determinant of the success of an investment. In addition, PSCM believes that the acquisition of a portfolio of investments, when acquired at a large discount to intrinsic value, provides a margin of safety that can mitigate the likelihood of an overall permanent loss of each fund's capital.

Natan inspires young philanthropists to actively engage in Jewish giving by funding innovative projects that are shaping the Jewish future. Natan believes that educated, engaged, and entrepreneurial philanthropy can transform both givers and nonprofit organizations. Natan members pool their charitable contributions, set the philanthropic strategy and agenda for the foundation, and allocate funds to innovative organizations that are building new vision for the Jewish people and the State of Israel. Through unique educational events and experiences, and through a rigorous, hands-on grantmaking process, Natan is creating an influential, philanthropically-minded community of young Jews dedicated to transforming the Jewish future. Natan supports entrepreneurial organizations with annual budgets under $1.5 million that demonstrate an innovative approach to addressing the challenges facing the Jewish people. Since 2002, Natan has awarded over $7.7 million to 128 social entrepreneurs and emerging nonprofits and has generated well over $800,000 in additional funds for these organizations through challenge grants and individual contributions from Natan members. The Natan board underwrites Natan's operating expenses, so 100% of contributions goes to Natan's grantees. Natan is named in memory of JJ Greenberg (1965-2002), a friend to many of Natan's founding members and a Jewish leader who embodied generosity, joy, and a passion for Jewish life. JJ's Hebrew name was Natan, a form of the Hebrew word for "give."
